Joan’s brother, Beane, is an oddball — an ascetic and an exile from life. Joan persists, but she and her husband, Harry, just can’t break through. Following a burglary of Beane’s apartment, Joan is baffled to find her brother blissfully happy, and struggles to unravel his mysterious transformation.
Funny, enchanting, and wonderfully touching, Love Song is a comedic rhapsody to the multifaceted power of love.
What the Critics Say
“Richly comic and deeply touching. Outstanding. A smashing, compassionate new play.” –The Daily Telegraph
“…crisp, tough, undogmatic, menacingly funny. Strongly recommended, especially to those not afraid of the freedom of fantasy.” –The Sunday Times (London)
“The sweet surprise of John Kolvenbach’s Love Song is its gentle touch. –Variety (London)
“Kolvenbachʼs avowed intention is to aim straight for an audienceʼs “squashy middle” — the soft centre that thrills to pop songs and secretly weeps at Disney movies. (Come on, admit it, we all have it.)” –Australian (Melbourne)
Love Song runs approximately two hours, with intermission.
